Exploring the Beautiful Vaile Mansion
Colonel and Mrs. Harvey Vaile built this elegant home with a distinctive character and unique beauty. This is why it’s one of the best examples of Second Empire style architecture in the United States. The Victorian elements soften and accent the deep red brick exterior of the stately mansion. While the soaring 112 foot tall windows are capped with brilliant white limestone. The main entrance welcomes visitors with an impressive black walnut staircase and hints at the treasures within. In fact the home features no less than nine marble fireplaces. The main parlor has the most impressive mantle, hand carved from opulent white Cararra marble with onyx details. The exceptional craftsmanship is also found in the exquisitely painted ceilings throughout the 31 rooms. The modern-for-the-time kitchen and 48,000 gallon wine cellar offer a behind the scenes view of the functioning household as well.
